WILL & GRACE
Will & Grace is an American sitcom, that is based on the relationship between William Truman and Grace Adler (in NYC). Will & Grace, during its original run, was the most successful television series with gay principal characters. The TV show still remains very popular.
The show, Will & Grace focuses on the relationship between Will Truman, who is a gay lawyer, and his best friend Grace Adler, who is a Jewish woman who owns an interior design company. Their two friends are Karen Walker, a rich women who works with Grace Adler, and Jack McFarland, who is a gay actor, singer, and dancer. Throughout every single show and season, the audience sees the relationships of these friends while they have to deal with the struggles/blessings/drama of dating, marriage, and divorce while adding the stereotypes of gays and the Jewish culture. Since the final episode aired, many people have stated that the show not only entertained people, but the show helped,, educated, and improved public opinion of the LGBT community. Even Vice president Joe Biden stated that, "the show probably did more to educate the American public on LGBT issues more than almost anything anybody has ever done so far." The Smithsonian added an LGBT history collection and section to the museum in 2014. Part of their history collection includes items from Will and Grace. One of the staff members, Dwight Blocker Bowers, of the historical section of the LGBT, said "the sitcom used comedy to familiarize a mainstream audience with gay culture that was daring and broke ground in American media." |
