NO H8 CAMPAIGN
The NO H8 Campaign ("No Hate") is a organization that started in 2009 in the United States by a photographer Adam Bouska and his partner Jeff Parshley due to the passage of Proposition 8 (that states, "only marriage between a man and a woman is valid or recognized in California"). The mission of the campaign is to promote marriage, gender and human equality. The campaign itself uses education, social media, and visual protest to promote human, marriage, and gender equality.
The campaign is a silent protest using photos of people/models with duct tape over their mouths ( which symbolizes that their voices are being silenced by Proposition 8) and painted on one of their cheeks is "NO H8". The reason behind the "H8" is because it is short for "Proposition H8", a nickname that was given to Proposition 8. All of the photos are on the campaign's website, as well as various social networks (such as Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, and Tumblr), as well as a virtual world campaign in Second Life. Some photographers, student groups, schools, and other organizations have been inspired by this silent protest and have set up their own photoshoots. The photos from the campaign, student groups, organizations, schools, and other photographers have been shared all over the internet and are appearing on many supporter's social networking profiles. One of the most amazing things about these photos is that both LGBT and non-LGBT people have participated in the photoshoots. The campaign's official site: http://www.noh8campaign.com |
